I could think of may things I would like to say, but be the bigger person. Walk away from the situation. If you are happy with yourself it does not matter what people think. Most people do things like this because they are trying to build themselves up, they have no self esteem. There are just people in this world that do not deserve a response, it just fuels there fire.

I would just excuse him as he may lack the right education. A well-educated person doesn't name-call.

Insult them back.

I mean, really, good for the answerer above who chooses to be the bigger person. But I've also learned as a person who can easily be intimidated that there's a slim difference in life between being "the bigger person" and being bullied.

And if someone is going to be so rude and menacing as to call me "fat", then I'm sending a little piece of loving back their way--and that includes pointing out their obvious education as mentioned by another answerer. Or I'd look for a quick issue with their appearance, language skills, or children. Insulting children REALLY gets under a person's collar.

It's petty, but if someone really called you fat for NO reason whatsoever, then it's a matter of defending your honor, since glove slaps just aren't the thing to do anymore. Forget the high road!
