How much would it bother you if a product you like has a spokesperson you hate?

Do you ever base at least part of your purchase of a product on the individuals who endorse that product? What if it's someone you really despise?

Not very. Like those cameras Ashton Kutcher endorses. They look like really cool cameras (I do like the idea of tapping the screen to take a picture), and I'm sure they have great reviews - the fact that Mr. Kutcher is using them to take pictures of all these airheaded women doesn't influence me one bit. Nikon's cameras are pretty renowned worldwide (maybe not their point-and-shoots, but their SLRs definitely), and I can see that they're hiring a younger actor to market the cameras to a younger audience. I don't mind that strategy, and I will continue to rely on consumer reviews to judge for myself if the product is worth purchasing.

I don't normally allow celebrities' endorsements to influence me to buy a product.

If I truly liked the product, I would think, "What a shame they got ----- to do that ad -- that was a poor choice", but I wouldn't stop using the product if it stayed the same quality I was used to.

If they changed the product to a shoddier quality or something like that, then I may stop using the product.

I think there are many "dumb" ads on TV these days, so I don't pay a lot of attention to them. I much prefer mentioning to others the ads I DO like and how clever they are!!

Honestly, the spokesperson for a product or service is not going to influence me towards or away from the product or service. I will prefer to base my decision on the merits of that which I am buying.

Sometimes a spokesperson that is polemic is beneficial to a company in that it generates buzz, getting the brand out into public discussion.

It really depends on how much I dislike the spokesperson, and how much the prodcut is tied to them personally.

I'm no great fan of Paris Hilton to pick someone at random. So under no circumstances would I buy 'Paris Hilton Perfume' as a gift for ANYONE.

However if she advertised another product such as a car, credit card, or camcorder... then it wouldn't really put me off if I was going to buy it anyway.

The only exception to that was if the spokes-person was horribly bigoted about religion/race/other issue* . If I thought that buy buying the product I was endorsing the views of the spokesperson I wouldn't. I'd also probably send a letter to the company involved saying why I felt I was no longer able to buy their product.
