Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum
If a researcher offered you $50,000 to participate in a study on circadian rhythms that requires staying in a cave for 4 months would you?
A similar study has been done in the late 80's where an Italian woman volunteered to spend 4 months in a cave in New Mexico. The researchers wanted to find out how a constantly dark environment would affect the human body in terms of sleep-wake cycles (since the 24-hour cycle our body undergoes is strongly depended upon sunlight and darkness at night). Would take this opportunity, especially if you would otherwise never make this much money in 4 months? Or would you decline, due to the lonliness and boredom you would face in the cave all by yourself?

If I were to base my decision purely on the economic side of things, my answer would be yes. For me at least, $50,000 in 4 months would be far more than I otherwise would earn in that time period.
When I start to factor in other factors into the equation, my answer becomes a no. I will be getting married early next year. Such a disruption of my normal schedule would definitely impact my wedding planning efforts.
The prolonged period of darkness and loneliness would be uncomfortable I am certain, but I suppose that is why a large sum of money would be offered in compensation, but would be bearable for me.
So, if I were at another stage in my life I would do it. At this moment though, I'd have to pass.

Personally at this point in my life I would not, I have a wife and I would miss her dearly.
If the offer came before I was married, I would consider it.
I would ask what precautions would be taken to make sure I have no damage to my eyes for lack of light. I would ask is if I could have entertainment, and if so what. I would ask if I would be allowed to write about my experience making additional money with a book or blog.
My decision to stay would be directly impacted by the answers to the questions above.

I would do it. Not only would I further science...I would have time for personal reflection and comparison. I think it would help me cut through the BS to discover what issues really matter in the bigger picture of my life.
And I would come out a perfectly pale goth princess!
