Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum

If psychics are so good at predicting the future how come more of them don't win the lottery?

Or do you have specific evidence to prove that psychics can win the lottery?
Derren Brown a UK Magician claims to have cracked how to predict the lottery. see http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/tvandradioblog/2009/sep/11/derren-brown-lottery-trick
I'd be interested to hear your answers on this.

Unfortunately, precogs (people with precognitive ability) all confirm that their special abilities aren't catch-all gifts where they can blink an eye and have any information they ever could possibly want. It's like the lame, over-played joke: "If you're really a psychic, then you already know my name, don't you?".

Har har har.

Many precogs find that the visions (or in the case of of clairaudients, the things they hear) are not only random and uncontrollable, but also usually warnings of negative events or the ability to sense things that have already happened. Many consider it a curse and don't want anyone to know about it.

An example of how the "gift" might work for some, is that they feel a sudden rush of energy and see a vision after touching an inanimate object that is "charged". Some see their visions in dreams. Some have uncontrollable flashes. But I've never heard of a single one (that was half-way legitimate and not laughable) who said they could look in a crystal ball and get any answer to any question.

If they could, why wouldn't all the richest and most powerful people in the world be psychics?
Why wouldn't we cower in fear of them?
Why wouldn't we be slaves to their power?

Any precogs who try to claim they can see your future with any degree of certainty are most likely lying. I don't blame people for being distrustful of con artists, but remember that there ARE real precogs out there. They just might not be on late night tv.

I agree with all you say, gno. Many years ago, I had precognitions of almost-exclusively negative events which were going to happen to those I knew, including my mother (as I mentioned above). It got to the point I couldn't handle it anymore, and managed to shut it off. I could see a person and know they were going to die soon, and sometimes even how. THAT was horrible! Now, I definitely pay attention to my intuitions about things, but I make no effort to know anything about what will happen to anyone as I used to be able to. So, I truly understand what you mean about the "visions" or "thoughts" or whatever being uncontrollable, and usually about negative events. I actually scared a few people before I learned never to tell anyone what I had envisioned. For a while, I read Tarot cards for people, and I actually made one woman instantly sick (vomiting) because she knew I was telling her her marriage was about to end (it was). I could not deal with that kind of hurting people, I shut it all down.

They all seem to say they're "using a gift they were given" and "it wouldn't be right to make a lot of money from it" (even though some charge fairly high!). I'm guessing perhaps they're predominantly NOT so good at predicting the future?

It looks like Derren Brown was at least very happy with his numbers in the video.
You can't tell for sure if it was real or not, since he wasn't able to legally show his numbers until afterwards.

Sorry Bestpay, I don't have any specific evidence that Derren or anyone else can use their precognition to win the lottery.

The precognition part of any psychic ability has always been hit or miss. Most true precogs get their information through dreams and they are events that the person cannot control, like a hurricane, plane crash or death of a family member.

I personally feel almost sad for people with real precognition since it amplifies that fact that they are truly helpless with their gift.

What really gets me about Derren Brown and his lottery shinanigans is... where's his TICKET?!

Maybe most of the people that have won are actually psychics. They wouldn't say because that would be cheating and who would want to loose all that money? :D

Do they need to post notices about meetings or do they just know?

I'm not saying precogs don't exist, but I think that more of the stuff you've heard of is fraud than you ever think can be. I remember watching Peter Popoff, a popular televangelist, as a child. He would mention interesting things about people every so often that he wasn't supposed to know. Things like their addresses, or who they came with, or other things like that. Anyway, it turned out someone busted him for wearing an earpiece. His wife was doing fact checking behind the scenes and feeding him the information in real time. I couldn't believe he was given so much TV exposure for what turned out to be an actual scam. If he can get busted, think of all the other ones who get away with it.
