Yes we actually did, seven years ago. The house was unbelieveably disgusting, ceiling and floors all stained yellow, but we had a plan.

We repainted all the rooms and steam cleaned the carpets. That helped a lot. We wanted to get the heatand AC ducts professionally cleaned but did not, which may actually be why we think we sometimes still smell smoke.

If I were to do it again, and I would, it's a great house, I would pull out all the carpets, repaint all the walls, pull off any wall treatments like paneling and wall paper, and have the duct work cleaned professionally. Don't forget the fixtures, they also need replacing as they are stained and stinky.

No. It's very tough to get smoke smells out of a house. It can also be very costly to do so. Smoke smell really bothers me since I do not smoke and am very rarely around people who do smoke. Infrequent exposure makes me extra sensitive to it. Some people may even be allergic to it.

Personally? No. I don't just dislike the smell of smoke. Secondhand smoke makes me sick. Physically sick, not metaphorically. And if the house still smells of smoke when I move in -- as opposed to it just temporarily smelling of smoke, say when the previous owners left -- it's probably not going to go away unless I take drastic measures. And I don't want to have to take drastic measures for a house. My home is my castle, after all.

No. I quit smoking several years ago. I can't stand the smell of smoke now. I wouldn't want to spend time all that time smelling an ashtray while I tried to get rid of the smell. Would it ever be completely gone? I would be skeptical.

It depends, if I cannot find a more convenient home other than the one that smells strongly of smoke, then I'd stay. I will just have to do some ways to get rid of those smoke, maybe burn an aromatic candle or use air freshener.

But if I still have time to look for another place to stay then I won't stay for it will only burden me and make my stay inconvenient. My daughter is very allergic to strong smell and smoke because of her sinusitis so I will really opt to look for another place.

Yes I would because there is a wonderful product out there called Febreze and it cost about $4 a bottle or less and will eliminate or neutralize odors and leave your furniture and walls smelling fresh and clean.
