I would say to myself, self, sit down and listen. You are a good person, never forget that. You are intelligent, don't believe the critics. You are handsome, though you don't believe it. Listen to your parents, they are looking out for your best interest. Forget your ego, be a friend among friends. Never drink and drive. Save for your future, you will need it. Treasure your brothers and sisters, they will be with you through thick and thin. When you get married, treat your wife like a queen and she will treat you like a king. Talk with your children. Play with them and have fun, they will grow up before you know it. Take responsibility for your own life, don't blame your problems on others. The important things in life are family, friends, and community, not, power, fame or fortune. Look in the mirror from time to time, if you don't like what you see, change. Above all, be kind to yourself. If you treated others the way you treat yourself, you would have no friends. Now, go on, get out of here. Enjoy your life...

• Thank you so much for your answer. It was heart moving. I noticed another reader commented that it brought a tear to her eye, guess what, it made me fill with tears too. Thanks again.

"The only thing you have to do in life is die. Unicorns don't know regret."
It took me far too long to make that realization in life. If I could go back, I believe only that small morsel of advice would change much of anything.

I would tell myself that there is nothing worth getting that angry over, and that I shouldn't change a thing otherwise. I would not be the person I am today without the stupid things I have done, and though I might regret them, I wouldn't have it any other way.

I would tell myself to stop being so uptight and desperate for independence and just GO WITH IT!
As soon as I got old enough to realise that when I got to 16 I could technically move out on my own, that was all I dreamt of.
Obviously now I know it's definitely not all it's cracked up to be...

I would say -
Stay tough.
When you become an adult they can't hurt you anymore.
Don't marry the first 2 husbands - they are losers.
Get counceling early in life and go for the best.
Get away from your family as soon as possible.
You will one day be strong and you will be in charge so don't give up or give in.
Keep smiling and keep your sense of humor.
