Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum

No Best Answer, are people are people being fair?

How do you feel about users on Mahalo that ask question on a topic. Then 1 to 10 people give short to long answers to the question and the asker comes back few days latter and says no best answer after not giving any feed back the hole time.
When I ask a question I always give feed back so the people helping me have direction. And what gets me every time this happened to me all of us people who answered gave good answers. I'm not mad that I didn't get the tip, sometimes the other answerer had a better answer and I would vote for them.

Anyway tell me what you think. If I am out of place tell me. Has this happened to you? Are you one of those people who give tips only if the answer is perfect ever if it's Mahalo's money?

You are not out of place, we all have attachments to our answers I believe.
This just comes with the territory. We have to accept the idea that a user might, fairly or not, select no best answer. I have seen this in the past with some of my answers and I'm sure if you personally asked anyone with more than a couple of months of time in here on Mahalo Answers you would find that it has happened to them all.

Just because it has happened to us all does not make it better or easier. I know this is no appeasement for you and I to have emotional attachments to my answers. I don't like my answers discounted and thrown in the bin of "no best answer", I would not believe anyone would but we just have to move on and keep the same positive attitude and Mahalo Spirit that we carry everyday. If this continues to happen to you with the same user then just make a mental note and keep that in mind when answering or considering the possibility of answering one of their questions in the future.

Our best bet to combat this is to just keep answering to the best of our ability and remaining constant in the positive Mahalo Spirit. Eventually the number of best answers you receive will far out weigh the unfairly selected no best answers in your bag of Mahalo moments and you will hopefully remember the great answers you gave for exactly what they are, best answers. Keep your head up. :)

If I was way off I would not care, but when not just me, but the group was dismissed I don't like it. I would regather have someone else get the best answer then get no answer, if that makes sense.

Thank You for replying.

@michelleldevon is right when I reread the question you are asking about Mahalo and not ConundrumLand so I guess the question is misplaced but you frustration is not. We would do best discussing this in Mahalo Answers

You maybe right but Mahalo staff wants more trafic on this site so I posted this question here. This question has no right answer so isn't that a Conundrum. Oh well posting here will get more trafic as well. Don't worry I will pick a best answer.

Many times the question goes to the popular vote, so it may not be the asker that says no best answer. It should say if it was the asker that voted no best or other people. They should always give feedback on why they say no best answer in my opinion. how can you learn if you are just told that this was not the best answer.

All the times this happened to me it was the asker you selected no best answer. One time a mahalo page came up asking if I thought it was fair. Both me and the other person didn't think it was fair. I then voted for that person to get Best answer because his answer was better then mine.
I don't mind feed back I think it's the askers responsibility to be clear and give feed back.

Thanks for answering

When it says "No Best Answer Selected," there is no way to tell whether the asker voted "No Best Answer" or the question simply defaulted without votes. The effect is the same.

Yes you can tell it says so in the email and the asker is asked to give a reason. Check my profile and see for yourself.

When trying to determine why no "Best Answer" was selected, don't forget to check below the answer box to see if anyone voted "No Best Answer."

However, the main reason for "No Best Answer Selected" is that many questions are imported by members via Twittersearch. This is a site that lists Twitter questions that match search terms. The member selects questions and saves the Tweets. The questions are then imported to Mahalo. This may mean that the askers on Twitter are not aware that their questions are now posted on Mahalo. When questions are imported, Twitter members automatically become Mahalo members. The idea is to entice the Twitter members to view the Mahalo answers and to, hopefully, become active. This doesn't always happen.

Unfortunately, it also means that many of these questions are overlooked in the voting process. Consequently, I'm very conservative with Twittersearch and select only the best questions that I can find. After correcting the grammar, I answer the question after posting it, fully knowing that the asker isn't likely to vote on the question.

A Twitter question is indicated by the bluebird in the corner of a generic profile picture.

I would consider that a pocket veto. This is not what I'm talking about. In this case the questions just disappear. When a asker gives a 'no best answer' you get an email telling you. I have gone to select the best answer to one of my questions and the question had already expired so all I could do was voter on best answer.
Thanks for your input

I think maybe the person has a preconceived idea of what they want the answer to be so when it doesn't come up they pick no best answer.

I'm not certain Conundrum is the place to discuss this type of internal problems and issues on Mahalo. I think this question is not 1) a Conundrum, but a problem and 2) about a different website (though I know they are related, they aren't the same).

This really belongs in the Mahalo community, not here.

You maybe right, but this question has not real anser just like most of the question on this site. So does this make it a Conundrum?

I don't believe choosing No Best Answer is out of line at all. To me, a "Best Answer" means more than simply being the best of the answers that are given; it should also be a legitimately good answer. And if all the answers are misspelled, copy-pasted, just cranked out without thought, or anything like that, I wouldn't feel right rewarding one of them.

Fortunately, situations like that don't come up very often, and haven't for me. I can usually spot a pretty good answer -- and in many cases, a great answer! -- quite quickly, and I thank our community for that.

Thanks for your answer. I have had the case where I haven't had a good answer. I let it go to vote instead of clicking 'No Best Answer'. I just get upset when the asker doesn't reply and or understand the question their asking.

If they they didn't got the answer for their questions, there is no wrong in choosing 'no best answers'. But they should clarify why there is no best answer. If they simply choose no best answer without explanation, that is unfair and they should be given minus points.

In the cases I have been referring to all of us gave an answer that would work to solve there problem if they used it. They gave an explanation but it made no sense, it is like they didn't really know what they where asking.
