What 5 songs would be on your iPod if you were trapped on a desert island?
You're on a desert island. You have nothing else from your voyage, except for an iPod (with new futuristic technology that includes a solar charger...go with it...) that contains only 5 songs. Which would they be?

Five is so few! Still, my very short list would include
"Splendid Isolation" by Warren Zevon. I would be, after all, alone.

"Only Time Will Tell" by Jimmy Buffett. This isn't my favorite version of the song, but it's certainly island music and pleasantly philosophical.

"Say Hey (I Love You)" by Michael Franti and Spearhead. Even alone on an island, I'd want a reason to dance!

"Still Alive" by Jonathan Coulton. Okay, it's a bit bent, but every morning one needs an affirmation that you made it through the night.

"30 Days in the Hole," by Humble Pie, because it seems that about every 3rd playlist I make has it included.

But really? Only five songs?

• It was really, REALLY hard to pick the best answer here. Almost unfair to say one person's selection is better than another's.
But @bbrookin's answer was magnificent with some very interesting, inspired picks with excellent reasons for picking them. You clearly put a lot of thought and care into your answer. Thank you!

Whatever I picked, if it was only five forever, I'd get sick of them quite quickly. And then I'd stop listening for months or years before I was ready to hear them again.
Anyway, I'd pick five to cheer me up, help me cope, and remind me of life back home. So maybe they'd be these ones...

Well, they're probably as good a choice of five as any! I could easily have selected plenty of totally different sets of five and been just as happy with them. But those are good songs, with some good memories attached, and pretty good for being stranded on an island with. :)

I'd pick five of the longest songs on my iPod, to prevent boredom.
"Dazed and Confused" (Live Version) - Led Zeppelin - 29:18
"In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" - Iron Butterfly - 17:02
"My Generation" (Live Version) - The Who - 15:47
"Thick as a Brick (Part 1)" - Jethro Tull - 22:40
"Spoonful" (Live Version) - Cream - 16:39
They total to one hour, forty-five minutes.
(I'd post YouTube videos, but none of the songs will fit into the standard ten minutes alloted for YouTube videos.)
