What can be done to help female military veterans to feel more welcome and proud of their achievements while serving in the war?

A recent article states that while most male veterans coming back from the war are received with open arms upon returning to the US, female vets feel that they are not treated the same. Nobody buys them a beer at a bar or thanks them for their services done while deployed overseas. Nobody so much as acknowledges their contribution and many people even say that women don't do as much as men in war, since they are not allowed to engage in direct battle (not allowed in armor battalions) on the battle field.

I think that people should realize that although females may not be engaged in direct battle, they are making sacrifices to be part of the defense of our country. Some people forget that these women have left behind a husband, child(ren), mother, father, boyfriend, friends; just the same as their male counterparts. Women may not be in direct battle but do they do see and hear the destruction all around them, they see the anguish on a fellow troop after injury, they hear the bombs, the gunshots, the screams of terror. They see what this is doing to their fellow troops, to the country and it's people around them. Women should be given respect, gratitude and praise for their efforts and participation in war.

People can start showing appreciation in their own neighborhood.

Perhaps a national support group should be organized for female veterans. And perhaps the Veteran's Administration should be the place to go with that idea.
