The best toast for a friend's wedding is Rye or Wry ^_~
The perfect toast should start with a bit of humor, my best friend told the story of how my wife and I met. (Ironic twist, she asked me if my friend was single)
It is important that the over all tone should be serious, as many may think of an all humor toast as tacky. I am also a fan of short toasts as they are often more memorable.
Here is a great and detailed post about this very topic.

If you dislike writing, but have a toast to make you could always hire a pro. http://www.theperfecttoast.com/

I assume you are talking about the reception and build from there.
Ask the person handling the music to play, "Another one bites the dust" and it played in the background quietly while you do the toast. Once the music is going talk humorously about memories you two share. Wrap it up with a personal, heartfelt thank you of loving affection for those memories you two have shared.
By the way the music works best if you start off by commenting about "former relationships" that are very long gone. "Another one bites the dust" was my sister and brother-in-laws wedding song because both of them were on their second marriage.
