What should you do if you keep getting semi-pornographic text messages from a stranger?

This has happened to me twice. It's in my area code, and I don't recognize the woman, so I think it's a wrong number. I'm too embarrassed to reply, though. What should I do?

Contact your cell phone company. More than likely you are not the only one getting them. I had someone who was sending me "prank" text and the cell phone company handled it for me. They can help you block the number, plus they will know if it's a mass thing or just a wrong number going by if anyone else has complained. If your company won't, contact the county attorney and file a complaint. Or just simply contact them yourself. They should be embarrassed enough to stop sending them if it is a mistake.

Well, try going online to see if you can see who the number belongs to.

I know you feel embarrased about texting the person back, but you do want to let her know that she has the wrong number politely.

Or you can see the features on your phone on how to block a certain number.

If it is a stranger... then contact your cell phone company. They may be able to block the number or prevent the person sending you the messages.

That nice contract that you signed normally includes a bunch of small print saying that you agree not to do that sort of stuff.. so if someone does then they can bar them from the network.

Well, Bandit,

I suppose the best thing is find a cop friend and ask him to text the person and remind him/her that sending such images on the phone is against the law in every state. If the incidents have been frequent (more than two or three is enough to be "frequent") I'd seriously report this to law enforcement. As a part-time deputy sheriff myself, this is more important than you think. It falls into the category of abusing public airways, stalking, harassment (after you notify the sender to cease and desist). The cell # can be traced, and criminal charges could arise.

Doing nothing will not stop them from coming to you. Perhaps before the cops, you could send a short cease and desist statement to the sender and keep his / her e-mails and your reply on your phone. DO NOT ERASE THEM.

If this fails to stop the unwanted texts, contact law enforcement.
