I would not hesitate for a moment to use whatever weapon is at hand to defend myself, family, friend, or even a stranger under attack. The force that is brought to bear should never be measured nor restrained to accommodate the well being of the attacker; rather, it should be realized so that it provides you with enough margin to escape the danger. Many times that may result in superficial injury to an assailant, other times it might result in the assailant lying dead on the floor.
Under those circumstances, whatever the end result is for the assailant, I would not care, as long as I managed to extricate myself or loved one or innocent victim from the danger.
