I would rather live the most fulfilling and productive life I can.
Whether that is working in the family business, starting my own business, or something else entirely depends rather on what the family business is, and what my other options are.
As for whether a family business is generally a good place to be... that is a similar question to whether a family is a good place to be. They can be warm and loving, with a level of trust and understanding of each other not seen in any other kind of organisation. Or they can be emotionally fraught and stifling to a degree far beyond the average organisation. To a large extent, it is also up to you, and you ability to get on with your family.
Personally, my family doesn't have a business for me to work in. But if they did, and it was the kind of a business I was interested in, I'd certainly consider it carefully, whether or not it paid better than the alternatives.
At the end of the day, it does not greatly matter to me if I make a six figure or five figure salary. What matters far more is that I'm doing something interesting that I care about, and working with people I like.

I do personally love the question.
To work or not to work for your family?
I think i won't work for the family.
I love to say it's up to every individual to become independent. It's all about the possibility to prove that you can and with so much in common one can do a very good job on his own.The great part of doing a different business is also inspirational. On the other hand...
A Mum or a dad can be very happy to see his kid becoming successful and so independent. Will definitely remember them how ,and when they've actually started their own business.
To be creative and considering having so much to offer is more than enough to go ahead and be constructive.
It's motivational and fun to invest ,risk, succeed without the support or a lot of knowledge but, instinct and ..I'll call that a '' glitter" of mind.
I'll love the idea that my boy or my daughter to start a small business and coming up to a high level with their efforts and a lot of amount of hard work.
Is rewarding and so challenging seeing how a business model can be created.
I do hope that answered your question
really it's so much potential in everyone of us
to be free and successful it's the dream of any individual but ,on top of all these ,..i think our parents will be definitely very happy to see that happen
good luck
