Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum

You are invited to your parent's house for Thanksgiving and decide to take your new flame along. When you get there you find out ...

... that your parents felt free to invite your ex whom you almost married a few years ago and whom your parents have always been fond of. You haven't seen him since your breakup and your mom tells you he still has feelings for you. How do you react?

The parents most likely knew that you'd bring your new guy, and that's why they wanted the ex's presence to be a "surprise". They are interfering, plain and simple with their passive-aggressive move. When you get there and find your ex there, you should immediately leave, and let your parents deal with the ex and his leftover feelings.

That would stink if my parents did that. Personally I would walk away from the family dinner, because inviting an old flame is in bad taste. Then that evening I would call my parents and tell them how I felt, and why I left.
