My very good long-time friend has a form of Parkinsons which affects her mentally as well as physically.
She doesn't hesitate to tell her dear friends and family that she realizes her memory and ability to do math or play bingo or remember some words and names, etc. is slowly deteriorating.
It distresses her to realize and admit this, but I think it is far better for her to do what she does than to keep it inside and let everyone wonder what is wrong with her.
Luckily she has days when she is clearer mentally, and then we can have our long conversations. We both really enjoy those days and the memories and current happenings we can talk about.
