Yes, I've blacked out from drinking once. (Warning: slight TMI ahead.)

I was 20. It was my first time "really" drinking -- I'd had wine at holidays and such, but this was a party some people from work had held. I guess it was a combination of not wanting to come off like I'd never done this before, and the fact that I hadn't done it before and didn't know my limit. I ended up drinking about 5 glasses of wine, and I did at least one shot. (I don't remember if there were any others.) It was almost defiant, as if I wanted to get drunk, just to prove that I could.

I remember that the first part of the night was great -- I was happy, I felt comfortable around my coworkers for the first time -- but then I don't remember, at all, how I got home. All I remember was stopping by the host's restroom to throw up, and that's all for a few hours. Apparently a few of the other people there took me home and waited until I was OK, which was great of them to do. I do remember waking up naked in the shower in my suite, sick to my stomach and uncomfortably warm -- like being carsick, but totally worse. I was throwing up constantly. And the next day, I couldn't keep anything down. Nothing at all. Fortunately, my roommate understood and stayed out of my way.

So now I don't drink that much anymore because I do not want to go through that again. All I kept saying was that I wanted to die. Loudly. To anyone who'd listen. Mortifying. Seriously, it isn't worth it.

Yes and yes!

I hate the sick feeling I get after drinking too much. After a few drinks, I'm usually fine and only a little tipsy and quite relaxed. But getting stupid drunk and passing out like that is not only dangerous, but it's the worst possible feeling. And the next day is ruined because you're dehydrated and ill all day from the hangover. I HATE that feeling...there's just no sense in it!

I love to drink! I hate getting D....runk!

Yes, I blacked out from drinking too much. One time.

Yes, it caused me to stop drinking for a very, very long time.

I quit drinking because I didn't want to ever be that "out of control" again. I drank while at home with my boyfriend at the time, so we were not out or in public, not driving. However, I drank more and faster because I was angry with the boyfriend (emotional drinking = bad, bad, bad). Had I either not been drinking or not been angry, I would have been fine. The combination created a learning experience which I will not need to repeat in this lifetime. I also didn't want to be that sick ever again - not that I remember much about it, but I had to scrub walls, carpet, floors, cabinets, and fixtures for days afterward - and, ewwww, *that* smell!

How is it that we survive our youth?

I've only blacked out once, and it was for a very short period of time after being slipped something in a drink. I lost my wallet that night and at the time I was living on a military base in Germany. :( Now I'm on the terrorist watch list for losing a military ID in a foreign country.

It didn't however make me drink less. I have always been a responsible drinker. I have always been aware of my limit. In my case I made a judgment mistake. The drink was made by a bartender for my husband. It tasted wrong and just sort of gross to him and appeared to have a white substance floating on top. I who had already had a few too many Ansbach Zombies.. said psh... We aren't wasting 6 euro and turbo strawed it.. next thing I knew.. lights out but the powers still on... by time my memory rebooted I was 15 miles away Iying on the steps of a huge church explaining to my husband how I like pickles in my grilled cheese and my wallet is gone. So were my shoes. Apparently I threw them over a bridge on the walk home because my feet hurt.

It did make me more careful of what I drink, but not how much.

Yes and yes.

Ooooh, that scared me something fierce! Not only do I not have adequate memory of what the heck I was doing, but if I drank THAT much, it means I was putting my life on the line. I could've crossed over to alcohol poisoning easily, or been taken advantage of by someone.

It was a real wake-up call for me to limit what I drink and grow up a little.
