Convincing someone to quit smoking is very difficult. I have a friend who is a cancer survivor who smokes! Her doctor harps on her with every visit.
Yet there are things to try.
Try appealing to the health benefits, unless she lives in a cave she should already be aware of the cancer risk, is she aware of the increased risk of stroke? Does she know the risks she may be passing on to those near her?

Sometimes the threat of a sudden death or stroke related medical issue is more fear inducing then cancer.
Try appealing to her from a personal finance perspective. Here is a tool that will show her how much smoking costs. The cost may be higher than people expect and who doesn't want more money?

Let her know every birthday and Xmas gift from now until she quits will be an item to help her quit smoking ^_^ Stick to it.

I apologize in advance for sounding so unkind. However, I think the most effective solution is to appeal to the social side of it. Remind her that smokers are very much outcasts in our society. A large segment of the population refuses to date them, live with them, or even stand particularly close to them unless they have to. Our government takes pleasure in putting obscenely high taxes on cigarettes, yet most of us non-smokers are laughing and cheering for it to go even higher. Many non-smokers have no sympathy for smokers who have to stand outside in the rain and snow, and a fair number even find it funny. Putting myself on that side of the social fence is the last thing I'd ever want to do.

No to start a problem....I smoke, been smoking since I was 14, I'm 20 now. You have to let her make her own decisions...And smoking doesn't make you a social outcast....Alot more people smoke then it seems. The Technical college I go to alone 95% of students and teachers smoke. The University here 80% smoke....It's everyones own decision once they hit 18. I understand your concern for her smoking, my mother is the same with me, but there really isn't anything to do about it, she has to be the one to quit, you can't quit for her let alone force her to quit...inform her it never hurts but if she wants to she will.

Show her the physical effects of smoking. You can go online and find some pictures of smokers lungs next to healthy lungs. Also tell her that the poisons inside the smoke damages her skin, it weakens your teeth, and makes it hard to have an active life. Show her the statistics of the cancer rate of children and nonsmokers who live with a smoker.
After you have done all this then you need to stop. She knows how you feel about it and she will only stop when she is ready. Hopefully it wont be long. There are more and more non smoking environments out there now. Some employers will not hire you if you smoke. She will come around and it wont take long.

You can't convince your daughter to quit smoking. She has to decide that on her own.
All you can do is not support her smoking. Don't allow her to smoke in your house or in your car. Don't go outside with her when she goes to have a smoke. Tell her she stinks.
My husband chose not to support my smoking in this way, and I finally did quit. It took about 18 months.
