I did have an anorexic friend, when I was in my early 20s. I didn't give her advice. I just served really yummy food whenever she was around, and I kept distracting her when she said she had to go to the restroom, so that she wouldn't get a chance to purge the food. Her mother did know the situation, and tried to enlist my help, doing what I was already doing. I told my friend about this, and we laughed together.
Just being her friend and being obvious about it, and not lecturing her was my way of helping her. I lost track of her, but ten years later I got news of her, so she lasted at least that long.

If I found out that my best friend is anorexic and won't listen to my advice, I will make her parents aware of this in case they don't know. Maybe she will listen to them and will follow their advice to seek professional help.
And if she will not listen to me for the first time, I will keep on persisting her that she really need help in case she might be open to my suggestion in some other time. Maybe she will change her mind because of my persistence. I won't give up because I know that it could mean life and death to her if her problem worsens.
