I have a friend who has breast cancer and has been fighting it for the majority of her life. The best comfort you can give a friend in these kinds of situations is to just be there as a friend and listen to her.

Dealing with the fear of losing someone you love is hard. Instead of focusing on the losing part, I would try to focus on enjoying every last moment I had with that person.

First of all, sorry to hear that. I think the best comfort for people with cancer is to meet cancer survivors and to form a mentorship with that person.
