Oh, you totally should be a warforged wizard!
Don't get me wrong, there's a special place in my heart for rangers and elves. Some of my greatest D&D characters have been rangers!
But let's face it, for maximum fun and power, you really need to go wizard or go home.
PRO for a warforged wizard:
``````````````````````````````````````````
Amazing built-in armor. You're like a tank!
Increased HP (from your CON bonus for race)
Spells are tons-o-fun once the game gets rolling and you rank up
CONS for a warforged wizard:
`````````````````````````````````````````````
At lower levels you're not going to have as much fun
Being warforged, your natural disposition is not to get along well with others
PRO for an elven ranger:
`````````````````````````````````````
Familiars/animal companions
Loot
At lower levels you're going to be cutting your teeth on fun tasks
You could make a "tempest" elven ranger (fun!)
CON for an elven ranger:
```````````````````````````````````````
You tend to plateau with your skills and the novelty of your class/race
It's been done a lot
And no, I've never played online. My experience mostly comes from the old-fashioned 3.0 & 3.5 books. I heart D&D!

Gno, I like you more and more than more answers I read from you :P
On an unrelated note I felt the need to share. Every time I see your name I envision this bar bouncer here. He's like 7 foot tall and looks like a blond cave man, but his name is "Geno" pronounced without the G being silent. Let me tell you imagining your answer's coming from the Geno I know, is a hilarious mental image.

Thanks, @unwirklich, and oh what a mental image that is. I think you should keep going with that.
And @cheapgamer, I'm adding it to my list!
