Conundrum Next Conundrum
A friend recently gave me a great pair of earrings, but I already own the same pair! Is it impolite to ask for a receipt so I can exchange?
I don't want to insult her in any way, it's just that I'd already purchased that exact pair of earrings for myself about a month ago. Help!

Personally I'd say it was rude... when it comes to gifts its the thought that counts. Your friend might interpret your asking for a receipt as saying that you actually place more importance on the dollar value of the gift.
The only way that you could get round it is if you commented that they were lovely earrings but you already had a pair just like them. This would allow your friend a chance to offer to exchange them, or let you have the receipt. If she didn't offer then thats as far as you can go.
