Do you get any satisfaction out of seeing your ex with an ugly new partner?

I have to admit, I was a little happy to see my ex definitely traded DOWN. She could be nice, perhaps, but she is u.g.l.y. I feel a little bad about it, but not really....Do you enjoy seeing your ex with a new partner who is less attractive than you are?

To be honest, we all have that little bit of joy in thinking our ex could never do better than us. However, I'm just happy not to be with my ex anymore, no matter who broke up with who. The joy I get is in seeing myself with someone else that truly makes me happy and being able to say I've moved on, regardless of how my ex is doing.

Honestly, no.

It seems that if he dumped me, and then went off with a less attractive person it would crush my self-esteem. It actually happened to me back in college.

It is not a good feeling to see your X with a less attractive partner.

That's a good point. Sort of like, if that's their "type," what does it say about you? I would offer you this comfort though: you were probably a rare "score." ;)

Sure we all get a good laugh at the trade down but maybe it's a sign of maturity that they have moved past the superficial.

Yes, but only until you begin to feel sorry for them. Also, if you're completely indifferent and don't feel anything at all, I suppose you're not likely to feel satisfaction either. I'm not sure trading down really has anything to do with moving past the superficial though. Mature people should value physical appearance at least as much as less mature people, and maybe more.

I suppose I might get some joy from that fact.

I don't really think of people in terms of looks though. She might not be as attractive but maybe she has a great personality.

Also just because you might think she's less attractive doesn't mean your ex does. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
