If you're talking about true love then you need both sides to be involved. If you've left one behind then whatever it is then it isn't love.
Just following your sentimental side isn't love. Its infatuation. It may be exciting, exhilarating and even intoxicating, but it isn't true love.
Just following your rational side, may let you find someone who is secure, sensible, and who you get on well with, but again that isn't love either.
You need both halves for true love, which is why it is often so hard to find

Don't follow any side. True love just happens, it's fate and you'll know it when it happens.
For example, my husband was born in Washington. His parents on a whim just ..moved to Alaska where I was born, no reason, they just did. We grew up two streets apart. We played on the same playgrounds, in the same woods, went to the same schools, and we never met.
In high school again, we had all the same friends, went to all the same parties, and never met though we'd seen one another.
I randomly messaged a person on ICQ who happened to like the same bands as me and screen name was "Shadow". I only messaged him because I had just had a family pet name Shadow die. I had no idea he even lived in Alaska, let alone the tiny town I live in.
That person was my husband.
Life set us up over and over again to meet, to see the move we were destined for and continued to do so until we saw it. It's when you over think it or search for it, that you ruin it.

I'm not sure there is a thing like true love. Just love.
But regarding JUST love, as I think it's the same as true love in the end, despite what it may seem, logical and rational thinking can beat out sentimental emotion nearly any day. Love involves trust and being able to communicate well, both things that come from a rational, logical side of things. Love doesn't come from having common interests or feeling like fate pushed you together - of course, that helps, but to keep a relationship going and to maintain a level of love, you need logic.
Following your emotions is a wonderful way to begin a relationship and finding someone you love, but to keep them you'll need a good deal of rationality.

I don't thinks it is wise to follow love base only on your rational or just sentimental experiences. You have to be rational and sentimental or you are starting a love relationship half hearted. The word love means that you are entering into something special. Love is not a job, where in you could go in incomplete. Your whole body, mind, and soul should be there before you can call it love.
