Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum
Would you stay with your estranged spouse just because you could not afford a divorce?
A news article describes how the current recession has actually caused a decrease in divorce rates, since estranged couples have not been able to afford the cost of divorce. Are the financial woes associated with costly divorce reason enough to stay together and try to work it out or should you try to separate without pursuing divorce (and hold off until you can afford to make it legally official)?

Stay together ,NO!
Live together ,Yes.
If neither can afford the actual divorce that is a whole different situation. If financially you can not move out due to poor income then I say live as roomates but do not STAY TOGETHER perse.
Alot of people will live together as roomates and go on with their lives as independent people. That is fine. Staying together as a couple is just wrong. That will just make things worse. If you have already talked about divorce then you are past the working it out stage.

I have actually done this. My ex-wife and I were living with her dad and neither of us could afford a divorce right away. At least we didn't think we could. Besides that my father-in-law liked me and wanted me to stay since I was the cook. We stayed together for about a year even after we decided on a divorce. I even started dating while her and I where still together (nothing serious, just went out a few times with someone I met).

Aww that depends on why were are splitting up, if a spouse was cheating on me, beating me or the kids, he would be out the door so fast his head would spin. However if it was just a mutual decision where we fell out of love, sure I would stay with him in the same household (separate beds) to save money until a divorce happened.
