I would not choose a family, I would let a coin toss decide so no one could accuse me of playing favorites.

I have been in this situation and informed the families involved that if I have to make a choice it will be on a coin flip. Both families graciously offered other ideas and solutions.
Asker's Rating:
• Coin toss.. very fair way of deciding to avoid couple fights as far as whose family matters more. :)

His family is intact, but both of my parents have been divorced twice. I am used to having more than one celebration to attend, for each holiday. On more than one such occasion, we have stayed home and had our own private holiday traditions! In fact, with us this is more the norm than the exception. We are prone to making time with our family around the holiday rather than on the holiday.

It hasn't happened yet that two huge celebrations were planned at the same time. I guess we would go to the one that was closer and required less expense to get there. If we attended any at all, that is.

I never had this situation occur as my ex-husbands parents lived on the other side of the country.

I guess if I ever had that one come up I would try to do them both, with my parents first and then we would go to his family.
