This would certainly generate traffic, but would it generate enough traffic to cover the expense of giving out a $1,000,000 prize? Sadly I doubt it. There is a reason it is rare to see M$100 or more for a prize, I don't think it is cost effective.

A company that has contests for money can give out a vast number of small prizes (ie Mahalo/Conundrum, though frankly it shocks me that they can do M$3 this regularly!) or a small number of large prizes (iwon/pogo). Personally I vastly prefer the former. I have earned enough on Mahalo to buy myself a video game and a PC controller in two months*, but in playing on larger payout sites I haven't won yet and I have been playing them on and off for years.

*I think I could have done it in a week or two if I had more time to answer questions.

I watched tricky dick on laugh in. That ought to be worth about $.75 cents or so. He did a "sock it to me" bit, among other things. might be on youtube.
