Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum
What "luxury" do you allow yourself no matter how tight the budget is?
The truth is that no matter how tight things are, we all have something we can cut from the budget that isn't a necessity. Is it your latte? Or a regular manicure? What stays no matter what shape your finances are in?

There are several things that aren't outrageously expensive but are technically "luxuries" that I insist on leaving in my budget.
First is lunches out with friends. Our visits are so enjoyable and helpful for my mood and make me feel so much better (so it's cheaper than a psychiatrist!!). Considering that I eat out getting specials and using "buy one get one free" coupons, I really don't spend an over amount.
Second is my internet connection. I have simple dial-up to compensate somewhat for the cost, but I could never let that go.
Third is buying books by favorite authors or in series that I am collecting. I do NOT pay the full high price. I do wait for bargain prices or trade with friends or pick up certain ones at our small community library. I know I could just read them from the library, but my schedule is so busy that I just cannot read a new bestseller in the one-week time period the library gives us. If I own the book, I can read it at my leisure and when I feel like it!!

• All of my favorite things, I agree that some "luxuries" are therapeutic.

Usually..when not pregnant.. wine or vodka.. I enjoy a glass of wine with dinner or a white Russian before bed. In the words of my husband, "No matter how bad times get alcohol will always continue to sell. it's good for morale" I agree. :D
Pregnant I'm a baked good fiend. I buy a cake or pie at least once a week as our oven is broken and I can't bake. (Black Forrest Cake is my favorite!) It's my own little person comfort. Unfortunately today I was diagnosed with pregnancy diabetes.. so.. no more sweets for me :( I'll have to find a new luxury item.

My Mountain Dew or Pepsi. I can't stand the taste of coffee no matter what I put in it that is supposed to make it taste better. But I need caffeine everyday or at least my brain thinks it does so I have to have caffinated pop. I have tried all of the off brands but even though it might save me a few cents or a dollar, I always buy the name brand pop like Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew and Pepsi.

It used to be cable TV. When money was tight, I always wanted to feel like I could curl up in front of the TV, watch stupid sitcoms and forget about it. Now it's skydiving. Not only is it hugely cathartic to jump, but skydivers are required to maintain "currency" (jumping at least once a month), so I always put money in the budget for making sure I remain current.
I think it's a good idea to keep at least one luxury. You need to feel like you have something to look forward to, especially when you're stressed and worried about money.

For me it would be a chocolate bar every other day and high speed internet access.
For my fiancé diet cola and coffee.
For my mom, cashews, I don't remember the house ever being without cashews when I was growing up, the electrical power may have been about to be cut, but we had cashews, LOL.

Friday night pop corn and movie night on the couch. Pop corn is cheap (we use the hot air popper), and now that you can get recently released videos for a dollar at redbox, the total cost is about $1.25 for the whole family. How can you possibly beat that, or possibly not afford it?
