The main answer is never to let anyone else use your credit card.

There is no good reason to let someone use your personal credit card. If they are not credit-worthy enough to have their own credit card, why should you take a chance that that person will run up your card in a way you cannot control?

If you really want to help a friend with a particular purpose, you can go with him/her to the store to pick out that item; and if it is not too expensive, you can then present your card yourself for payment.

However, be aware that you could be stuck with that purchase yourself, so I would not advise putting anything on your credit card that you do not want to take a chance of having to pay for.

Besides which, once you say YES once to doing this, that friend is apt to try to make it a regular occurrance, and you surely do not want that.

It is better to say "NO, I'm sorry -- I just do not do that" the very first time and put an end to that request right from the start.

You have a credit card for your own personsal purchases, it was not meant to be lent out so the fact remain you trusted your friend to use it and now realise that multiple charges were made on your card that you don't reconize. Oh! that's disappointing! Sometimes a friend can take advantage of your generousity because you don't want to say no but there has to be a point to draw the line. Some credit cards have a limit on the amount of credit purchases you can make, you can tell your friend your card has reach its limit and therefore no more purchases can be made on it. It will be more of a comfort of you took you friend to the store and to calculate how much you can afford to purchase on the card rather than giving your friend your credit card. I hope everything work out fine for you and you learn from this lesson and never lend your credit to anyone.
