I view it as a great work of art. That being said, I also fully embrace the pretentiousness. To me, that only adds to the allure.

I think like all music it is Art. Just because there are no words does not mean you cannot hear poetry in it.

Classical music is definitely a work of art, but it's not MY kind of art. I simply cannot listen to it for long periods of time. I once worked in an office that had classical music going all day long because the boss loved it. It drove me insane, and put me to sleep.

I'd say it's stereotyped as pretentious, but isn't in reality. Anyone who has listened to any amount of real classical and really listened..even if they didn't like it would admit it takes skill and is a fine art. It's shame classical music lovers are labeled as they are.

It is definately an art form and what I don't think most people realize is that the music of today has it's roots in classical music.
