What is the best live band you ever saw?
I saw the ButtHole Surfers in a college bar with about 150 people in 1983. It was like an alternative universe experience that I will never forget.

For me, there is only one true 'Live' band, and of course that is 'Live.
I've seen them at 'Paradiso', in The Netherlands. Paradiso is called a 'rock temple', and indeed that's what it is. An old church, including glass-in-lead, turned into a music hall. The concert by 'Live' was almost a religious event. Their Music truly filled the entire room, and sucked you into the performance.
I wasn’t even a fan of the band, I had won the tickets, and was truly amazed by the sheer number of extremely good, recognizable no 1 hits they actually had. I’ve been a fan of them ever since.
You can experience part of the magic, as the concert was recorded and put on DVD. It's not exactly the same, but it's close. I've also included some youtube footage..

Amazingly, I believe it would have to be Simon and Garfunkel. I have seen a LOT of bands, brothers and sisters. I have been rocked by Iron Maiden, I have been lulled by Hootie and the Blowfish, and I have been sent down memory lane by Poison, Cinderalla, Def Leppard, Cheap Trick and a ton of others.
But the night me and my girlfriend went to see Simon and Garfunkel, there was something magic about it. They were not exactly spring chickens anymore, and to hear them hit those beautiful notes after all those years was really spectacular – even awe inspiring.
It was definitely the best concert I have been to. Those guys rock in their own way. :)

There not even close to my favorite band, but the Hives live sound like your listening to them on your ipod. I seen them at terminal 5 in NYC, and it was a better concert than Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Radiohead, The Bravery, Tenacious D, Foo Fighters, and Muse. I don't think the Hives are better than any of those bands, but there live concert was better.

Queens of the Stone Age. I was entranced the entire concert, even during the long jam sessions in between bits of songs. The chemistry between Joshua Homme and Nick Oliveri was electric, it's a shame Nick had to be kicked from the band. The variety of voices between Josh, Nick, and Mark Lanegan when I saw them just made it so much better - it was like three concerts in one. You have this one huge guy who has this lovely sort of stoned, average, but very nice singing voice, and then this insanely manic punk guy with these ear piercing screams, and then you have Lanegan who's completely stoic and has this deep, Tom Waits like voice that just rumbles out of him. Incredible, really.

I would say the best live band I ever saw was Nine Inch Nails. They have a great live show, and Trent Reznor sings, plays guitar, and plays keyboard. They have a lot of different elements to their live show, like a veil that covers the stage and plays videos to accompany their music, and you can still slightly see the band playing in the backround. It was overall an amazing show.
