Do you make purchases online? If so, what won't you buy on the Internet?

I am hesitant to buy things online, as I'd rather be able to buy them in person....are there things that you just won't buy online? Why?

Not really.. i buy everything online as prices here are outrageous. You do have to be careful buying clothing as you can't try it on.. what I normally do is ask the seller to send measurements then compare then to my own.

I won't buy clothes online, and I will never buy another computer online. I had a nightmare with Best Buy when I got this computer.

I won't buy shoes online. I have tried to, in the past, but they never do fit correctly. Shoes are just something I have to try on. Also, I can get shoes more cheaply at Payless Shoe Source, Walmart, or Target than I can online, after shipping is figured in.

There was a service where we could order groceries online and they would deliver them to your house and put them away for you. The icon of the company was a huge peach. They went under though. Not enough people were online yet, is my guess. This was in the 90s.

Like many people today, I enjoy shopping online and do tend to make the occasional order from an online store. What I enjoy browsing through and ordering most are the books on Amazon.com. I check out books from our local library every week for a preview and if the title truly moves me or is a book that I truly would read again and again or use for reference, then I will look for it on Amazon and try to find it at a reduced price. I have found many of my books this way in the past and have been lucky to save money on anything from textbooks to children’s storybooks. Sometimes the savings were as great as $ 50-$70 for a very good to like new textbook. Not a bad deal, if you ask me, especially when the alternative would have been to purchase a brand-new textbook from the university bookstore for almost twice the price. One of the things I will likely never order from the Internet are groceries and anything else that can age or spoil during the shipping process. I prefer shopping for food in person when I can look at and hand select the items after a critical price comparison.

I have made more online purchases in the last 2 years than I ever did before. I was afraid at first to give out my debit card information over the internet, but now, most of the sites have encrypted safety so I don't worry much anymore. I usually don't buy clothes or shoes online, because I like to try things on to make sure they fit and of course I can't do that online. I love being able to purchase some grocery items at Alice.com and have them sent to my door step with free shipping. That way, I don't have to trudge to Walmart and carry those heavy containers of Downey or Tide. If I see something online and the price is good, I'll usually go ahead and buy online. I really do not like shopping so it is much easier just to have things delivered to my front door.

To be even more secure with online purchases, use one card, and one card only for online transactions. In that account transfer money as needed to cover the cost of your purchases, plus a 5-10% margin of error for last minute additional shipping costs, etc. That way, even if you were to be the unfortunate 0.01% that is a victim of cyber theft, your immediate exposure is limited. In my personal banking account, they gave me the option to have a "cyber-card." It is a virtual debit card, that I can transfer money to from my regular account when I am purchasing online. It allows me to activate it or deactivate it immediately online.

Thanks for the great information! I've never heard of a "cyber card" but that definitely seems the way to go. I wish my bank had that option. Your other idea will work though until my bank gets more modern. lol Thanks again!

I like buying clothing in person to verify the fit. I've bought shoes, books, furniture and even a chandelier online. While I haven't bought a car online, I would if the circumstances were right. I've bought a car without a test drive though (still had an inspection, obviously).

Seeing how I always shopped from catalogs doing it on-line is no different. The same rules apply-no jewelery, shoes, clothes that cannot be altered, food and other very expensive items.

I bought books online several times on Amazon.com because I couldn't find the books I need for my thesis around here. I also bought several craft supplies and books from Ebay because I thought it would be cheaper. It turned out it did not because of the shipping fees. I also bought points for online game. Now, I want to restrict my buying spree. I think the only thing that makes me want to shop online again are books.

I absolutely will never buy food products online for fear that it will spill or go bad. There is no return policy where I live, and if I buy it from other countries, the shipping fees will kill me, so there is no returning goods that I've purchased for me. I also don't want to buy clothes or shoes as I am afraid they will not fit me properly.

The only thing that I tend not to purchase online are clothes and shoes. As others have stated here, size and fit are my biggest concern.

Apart from that, I have probably purchased everything else that I can read, see, eat, drink, touch, or use at least once online.
