They are not giving up "their" baby-- the baby is not their child. While they may have grown attached to the child during the pregnancy, and are now sufferrng intense pain, they absolutely did the right thing in avoiding a nasty custody battle which only would have delayed the inevitable.
What classy people-- I wish them will in the future, and hope that soon they will be holding their own baby in their arms.

• You made some excellent points. It was not "their" baby. I hope they can be part of the boy's life!

If I were in their situation, it would be a very difficult decision, but I would also give the child to his or her biological parents. The child's biological parents might also be having difficulty having a child, and it would bring them joy to give them a child. Hopefully, the Savages will be able to conceive again and have a child of their own. If I were in the Savages' situation and fought and won custody, the fact that this child was not mine and I had deprived another couple of their child would trouble me greatly. Again, this is and would be an incredibly difficult decision. However, I think they made the right choice, even if it was the more difficult one.

I think it would be very difficult to give the baby back to the biological parents. After carrying a baby for ninth months, feeling him move and kick and grow. However, they did know from the beginning that the baby was not their baby. So that would be easier than going through nine months thinking it was your child. They also decided from the beginning to give the baby to the parents. I would not seek custody I would do the same as the Savages, it is not their child and the other people should have custody of their baby, even though the other woman did not carry the baby. It is an awful situation for the Savages. They did a wonderful thing by keeping the pregnancy and carrying the baby for nine months, they are giving the other couple a wonderful gift.

I would certainly give the child up without a fight. The DNA would always win so why put either family thru that, however I would sue the doctor and technician of the clinic for not reading the label. That was very neglectful. Every health professional knows to read labels, and those professional did not.

I'm in full agreement with all the sentiments already stated! The Savages the best thing they could for all concerned. I do hope that the baby will grow up to know them. It will make an interesting family history story a few generations down the road. I wish all participants well.
