My son does have a set bedtime on days we have school. If I don't make sure he gets enough rest he has major melt downs. His bedtime is 9 p.m. on week days on weekends he stays up one hour longer which is 10 p.m. I think that is plenty long enough for any little kid.

I think one hour longer on the weekend is fine - any more and it will throw off their schedule.

I think +2(3 tops) hours would be acceptable. So it won't result to this..

Enough time for them to settle down, watch a movie beyond bedtime hours to give them the satisfaction that they stayed up a little later on the weekend.

the time depends on the age of the child..

8 was the week night bedtime when my kids were younger, and on the weekend an hour or so later was okay for the younger ones. That was way back in elementary school, in Jr. High we moved it up an hour 9 on weekdays and 10 on the weekends. Now in high school its 11 pm with no limit on the weekend. I find they are usually in bed by 1 or 2 on Fridays or Saturdays.
