Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum
If your grown daughter could not take care of her young child, would you step in and take custody?
Based on where I live, I have noticed more and more grandparents having custody of their grand kids. In fact, my sister in law lost custody of her kids to her Mom and Dad. She was too busy doing drugs. Pretty sad. Would you ever step in and take custody?

Well, I guess if the mother is doing drugs, then generally the grandparents step in if they are still alive and help out or even take custody.
In the case of my friend, her sister was taking drugs, was married and divorced and had a little girl. The girl was totally out of hand, sick, etc. So my friend talked to her father (the mother had died already), if she should step in and bring up the little girl. The father confirmed that this probably would be the best solution.
My friend brought this girl up like her own daughter, it was a joy to watch, she is now a well educated young lady, has a boyfriend and makes her way into life as an adult person.
But, it was not easy for my friend, she needed to pay a psychologist in the first two years to get the little girl back on the straight road. Sadly, my friend's sister, the mother of the girl, has meanwhile died of drug abuse although all help and support, even money was given to her to get off the drugs. She didn't make it.

Oh boy, this is a hard one. I would try to do what I can to make my daughter be responsible. Sometimes it can be best to back up and allow our kids to grow up. Perhaps not be there to help. Let them see they need to step up because I will not be an enabler.
That being said, there are some circumstances where one does need to step in. A lady down the street had to step in and take custody of her grandkids because her daughter was doing drugs.
If my grandkids were in danger I would absolutely step in. Kids are helpless and often they need someone to be their voice. Everyone can not turn their back.
I hope this never happens, but if something did, I would step in if needed.
