Most children will feel too old and too silly to still go out trick-or-treating once they reach a certain age, usually teenage. Some may be around age 12 or 13 and others may be older when they stop going out on Halloween night to collect candy. The decision to stop trick-or-treating will likely stem from the risk of running in to friends or a “crush” who may be taking out younger siblings and being caught having some childish fun. Embarrassment will likely dictate a teens action, even if he or she would still like to participate in Halloween activities. Personally, I have seen teens ages 13-16 still out for candy. But I have also seen teenagers out being silly in costumes and just walking the streets having fun or taking their brothers and sisters from house to house. I don’t think adults should dictate when teens should stop trick-or-treating and there is no one true cut-off age. So please candy distributers: Do give the older kids some candy or other treats, if they still feel young enough to go out on Halloween night. Doing so takes courage if the teens may face being made fun of by peers and kids do grow up way too fast, so let them have a little bit of fun before they become adults.

I would say there isn't one. Granted most people stop in there early teens, but if a 60 year old man came to my door all alone and said "trick or treat" i would give him candy.
It's just in the spirit of the holiday. Besides.. he could be a fairy in disguise... lol

I suppose when the child gets old enough to feel they're too old! But I never told my kids when they were too old, I let them decide and it seems they were about 12-13 when they stopped. That seems about the right age to give up trick-or-treat and start doing some of the work! I've had older teens and even college kids stop for trick-or-treat, but not too many. I like to give the older ones a hard time, all in fun. I'll ask them if they don't think they're getting too old for this, and they usually just smile and shrug.

Generally, any age is fine with me. Anyone young gets more candy, anyone older than 15 or so gets only 1 candy, as they can move much faster, cover more ground, and buy their own candy. You have to work for the candy! This is especially true if they don't put effort into it. I hate seeing 30 year olds at the door with a pair of devil horns. They clearly just threw them on for the free candy - but if your older and put real effort into it, you get just as much candy as younger kids do!
I Trick or Treated until I was 17 (just before I moved out). I only got questioned a few times, but the ones that made a big deal about it honestly got annoying. I'd rather they just shut the door on me or give me the junk candy rather than try and have a conversation with me about it. If you don't want to give me the candy, fine! I'll move on! Your taking up valuable trick or treating time! In fact, when I was 17, many of my neighbors still made special treat bags up for me (along with the other kids in the neighbourhood)... how nice!

IMO, I think once the kids hit about 13 yrs old That should be it.
I get kids 18 -19 yrs old trick or treating. It is kind of rediculous. What about the parents that only have NB babies They take a 2 month old out trick or treating,For who???Them of course.
There should be rules for that one.I do not give out candy to either of them.Only the KIDS.
