Definitely. Travel to other countries is very enriching, and I think seeing an entirely new cultural perspective is an important part of an education, and just an important part of being a human being. Being young is a great time to travel, because you don't have as many obligations. Young people are also still finding what they are passionate about, and I think travel could be a great way to help them decide what they want to commit to, career wise.

Travel can be scary, and there are some regions I wouldn't be too comfortable with (the Middle East, for example), but it's incredibly empowering to learn to navigate a strange place and take care of yourself far from home. I was terrified in college when I did study abroad and the professor just told us to meet at a certain place in Ireland. I wanted to meet at the airport and set out with someone, but it was great to realize that I could make it around the country alone. Being lost in an Italian city, where I couldn't even ask for help was also scary but ultimately beneficial. When I got back, I could always ask myself during a stressful time "is this harder than getting around a foreign country? No, then relax!"

As long as they were old enough to appreciate what they have been given - an opportunity most of us would kill for ( with hindsight ).

I agree with living in another country, I agree that education should expand via experience, not just be knowledge.

Guess it depends on how mature I thought I child was....
