Conundrum Next Conundrum
Would you send your child to summer camp that lasts 3 weeks for selfish reasons?
i.e. to take a small, local vacation or spend more time with your spouse?

Why not? As long as the child also wants it or at least want to give it a try. But I'll still keep in touch with them regularly to see if they are Ok. If something terrible happen or my child is extremely distressed, I'll rush to take them home ASAP.
If the child is very opposed to it, I wouldn't do it. I would ask them to spend a few days at their other extended family's house or a shorter camp, though, but it's not merely for my benefit, but to help my child not to depend on me too much and to be independent.
