Your child has lost his first tooth while in school and ended up misplacing the tooth in the classroom. You were looking forward to keeping

Yes, I'd be upset, but it happens. You can go look for it at the classroom and ask the teacher to keep an eye out, but it's probably gone. Save the next one?

In hindsight, it would be a relief. Would I really want to hold on to some part of my child's body that had been shed? Rather, cherish the moment of that goofy smile with the tooth missing, take lots of pictures, and shower your child with love. The tooth can be lost (obviously), but the memories can last a lifetime and bring you far greater joy.
