I have never been to a Black Friday sale, and I hope I never will be! I think I would rather stab myself with a hot poker than get caught in those crowds and deal with those herds of frenzied people. No one needs piles of stuff so much that it's worth elbowing and shoving and spending the day after Thanksgiving shivering in the cold at 4am waiting for stores to open.

I would shop online, if anyone was doing Black Friday online sales, if the prices were good enough, and I already knew what I was planning to buy. I do Christmas shopping the way I do all other shopping: with a list, to avoid impulse buys and over-spending.

The day after Thanksgiving, I spend time with my family. And I enjoy the day off work!

No, no, no! I don't like crowds of people who are all at odds to one another. I don't like driving from store to store, wasting gas and fighting traffic to buy gifts that I might not even get. Remember last year, when the guy was trampled? That chilled me when I heard it, and if I went out on Black Friday I wouldn't be able to shake feeling somehow complicit in such things.

Shopping online is a bit more appealing, but waking up early isn't as much. Honestly, I'd rather spend the day resting. There's an entire month to shop.

We sure do. Every year. The important thing is to research ahead of time so you're not floundering and flopping like a fish in the crowds. Know the few items you want to get, head out early, and BAM surgical shopping. Get in, get out. No going out for breakfast. No dilly-dallying.

The deals--some of them anyway--really make it worth the hassle of getting up early.

And in this economy, passing up a chance at free stuff (CVS pharmacies have a dozen items that are free that day) or cheap gifts, hey, we need every bit of help we can get.

Just remember to keep a cool head about it all, and it's a real lifesaver for frugal people!
