Hexbug.. unquestionably. At least the hexbug is cool and robotic. The hamsters are just for lazy parents that don't want to clean up real hamster cages. To me, if you want the kid to have a hamster, go buy a hamster.

Personally, I prefer the zhu zhu Hamster. It's on the list of hot selling toys, and it does a lot of cool things like running in a hamster wheel and driving a little car. AND, if he likes the little rodent, you can buy him another one at his birthday since there are four of them.

I would actually recommend asking the kid what he wants, because he is more likely to be happy with something that he asked for than something that you decide he will like.
