I have been in this situation and it was not comfortable. There were no empty seats. I accepted the fact that this is the hazards of public transportation. I was polite and carried on conversation as normal. The way I saw it, we were both uncomfortable, no need to make an issue out of the situation.

I too have been in this situation, but never asked to be moved.
I feel you need to show human compassion for the person next to you, they have feelings too.
I know some airlines have larger seats for larger people, this seems like a good idea.
There is no reason to rant on about the situation, you just have to sit down and hopefully have a great conversation with this person, you never know this conversation might go down in history!

It would be a tough fit as I am one of those extremely obese people myself.
