Color me sentimental. Many members of both sides of my family originally came from Germany, so that's at the top of my list.
It would be especially important to me to visit Bremen, Germany, not only for the architecture but because someone I loved very much was there near the end of World War II. I have an old photo of him with a couple of his buddies, and the only thing written on the back of it is "Bremen". I want to visit because he was there, and I look forward to that in a way I cannot even fully describe. Just the thought of being there for even a moment, closing my eyes, listening to the sounds, breathing the air... it brings a tear to my eye.

Beyond Bremen, well, the list is endless. I offer you these thoughts: Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Handel, Mozart, Schumann, Strauss, Pachelbel, Wagner, Albert Einstein, Anne Frank, Oskar Schindler, Kafka, Goethe, the Brothers Grimm, Max Ernst, Bauhaus, Oktoberfest, Cologne Cathedral, Berlin, Heidelberg, Munich, Frankfurt, Weimar, cuckoo clocks, nutcrackers, polka, sausages, strudel, kuchen, pfefferneuse, pickled herring, sauerbraten, spaetzle, Bavarian cream, Black Forest, lederhosen.
I wonder if they'd let me inside the Mercedes Benz plant in Bremen for a little tour. After all, I do plan to buy one someday. :)

I've become very curious about my Norwegian roots lately. Mom and I are tentatively planning a trip to explore the culture of Norway. We are in touch with some distant cousins we can stay with, so that helps.
Mom recently volunteered in China, and on the way she stopped off to see the Mongolian Steppe Horses.

Inside the Ger of her host family in Mongolia, Mom saw painted designs on the wood -- designs which are very similar to our cousins' Norwegian wood painting designs. It is eery. We are very curious about the possible relationship between Mongolians and Norwegians.
