Should Beppe Bigazzi have been suspended for his "cat stew" remarks?

Bigazzi is the "77-year-old host of a popular morning program that offers food tips and recipes in a country fiercely proud of its cuisine." He was suspended after indicating that "cat stew is a Tuscan delicacy" and claims to have eaten it "many times".

If it's not true that maybe he should have been suspended, although an apology should be just fine. But maybe the producers are afraid of the show's reputation. It's certainly within their rights to do so. Reputations and images are very important in TV industries and you should well keep your images and reputations clean. This remark hurts not only himself, but the whole show, and offend Tuscan people.

• Good points about potential damage to the reputation of the show, and the producers' rights. Thank you for answering.

ewwwwwwwww...Yes he should be suspended!! That is just wrong!! That is horrible!! Granted, many Chinese restaurants have been accused of serving food with cat in it, but I really didn't think someone would admit to it. Okay, I'm not hungry anymore. lol

Suspension is a little harsh, in my opinion. If it was not true, he should have apologized on air. But frankly, diet and which animals are okay to eat, varies HUGELY around the world, and people should know and deal with that. Granted, I don't have sound on this computer, so I don't know exactly what he said, but I doubt his statement will cause anyone to eat a cat. Animal cruelty is a problem, but the sicko who would kill a cat doesn't need a chef on a morning show to suggest it.

I love cats. I love dogs. I know that someone eat them in some countries. I don't travel to those countries and order mystery meat!

Yes, he was in a public forum for a certain standard he was hired for and he breached his trust. This in a country where they try to stay above for their fine cuisine. In addition in Italy there are very strict laws for animal abuse and dogs and cats are protected as pets. This means this would be cruelty to animals. In Italy you can go to jail for just abandoning a cat or dog in the street.

Yes, he should be suspended, but not for immediate sentimental reasons.

TV shows and their stars work for the advertisers (sponsors). Business is business. The advertisers are not going to want their products associated with a TV star who upsets the viewers. He needs to be reminded that the advertisers are his true bosses, so he should consider their interests in all that he says and does on the show.
