I don't watch a lot of heavy, serious, dramatic stuff when it comes to the usual TV serials. When I want thought-provoking and/or informative experiences, I generally turn to books, movies, documentaries, etc.
However, I do enjoy clever shows that make me laugh and make me think about how much fun it the writers of certain programs must be having. In that light, a good example of my preference would be The Big Bang Theory. I think it is the perfect combination of smart and hilarious. It's geeky and utterly silly at times, and refreshingly enjoyable as far as television goes. Sheldon and Leonard are two physicists who never let me down!

Brothers and Sisters. It has everything; homosexuality and gay marriage, politics, drug abuse, unplanned pregnancy, infidelity, corporate intrigue, and dating after divorce. That family has so many secrets and problems, it's a wonder they haven't killed each other off by now!

I can't say that I watch much lately that is thought provoking, mostly because I don't watch much tv except the Sprout channel when the tv is on. What I really loved was the new Battlestar Galatica. The drama and universal struggles were quite compelling. Also, they would make many interesting implications about man, our place in the universe, and the way we have shaped the things that happen to us. All of the classic archetypal drama was there - man vs man, man vs machine, man vs nature, man vs himself, love, hate, good, evil, and the constant hope for the future. It was pretty well written and a great show when it was on.

I really enjoy Criminal Minds and the original CSI. They both go through the plots and you never know what is coming up next. They always have you thinking and wondering. And the at the end, it is not usually what I expected to happen. :-)
