It's all about location. There is nothing more beautiful and calming than to hike to the top of a mountain, overlook a valley and just take in the moment. I love camping...the fires, the peace, and friends and family.
I have only stayed in a fancy hotel once, it was wonderful. But I would much rather be out in beautiful scenery than in a stuffy room.

I love watching TV and seeing local programming - weather, news, etc. I could do that camping, in a regular hotel, or the Hilton. There's just something about sleepily watching TV in the hotel in the morning before going out to explore the locale! British news in particular gives me the "good vibes," I think because we had a lot of great adventures in the UK. :)
Really funny parody of the BBC news (which is stunningly accurate):

While I am all for adventures and fending for myself, I think describing a location as exotic would for me sort of imply the prospect of certain infectious diseases lurking in the bodies of mosquitoes that feast on naïve but happy campers exploring the wilderness of their travel destination. There are all too many stories out there on travelers who wanted to take the scenic route during their exotic vacation and ended up catching a mysterious diarrheal disease after being camped out in the jungle. In more rare cases, you read about travelers coming down with hemorrhagic fevers and other terrifying illnesses after being exposed to some of the wildlife in rainforests or jungles. No thank you. I guess a 4-star hotel in a boring location it is for me. Or I could sleep in a decent hotel and still get to enjoy the beauty of the tropics during the day, but I think I would stick to the beach life instead.
