Ideally we would have two vacations per year: one would be our traditional long weekend at the beach in the summer and the other would be a two week road trip. Our last two week road trip was to New Orleans in the summer of 2007. Last summer though we only did our long weekend at the beach. Money is a strong consideration in such matters, even though we travel on the cheap.

I think it depends on the lifestyle or social status of the family. If they can afford to have as many vacations then I think the number is all up to them. But for other families, it's really difficult to even spend once a year (like us) because it's not just practical. We have lots of things to prioritize other than spending time on vacation. I know it's a need for every family in order to unwind but as a practical person, I think we can't have it for now but we're planning for that.
