Answered Conundrum Next Conundrum
At work, your boss is reassigning a lot of your work responsibilities to another person without telling you. Do you say anything?
What if it isn't just you, but your entire department's responsibilities to another department? The question didn't have enough space for me to mention this.

If such a shift of responsibility, be it on the individual level, or the departmental level, were taking place, and I felt that my position in the corporate hierarchy was such that I should of had been consulted, I would inquire as to why this is happening.
I would like to know, and I feel it is the fairest for both the company and myself, if the changes are due to shortcomings in myself or my staff, hear commentary or rationale on the move, and more importantly establish what my outlook within the company is.
That might provide me with insight on how to improve, or be prepared to change departments, or if need be, be prepared to leave the company all together; but, if I didn't ask, be the situation what may, I would not know.

Hmm... if it had been just you then that would have been one thing: The boss was planning to fire you or he was planning to re-assign you as a surprise, in which case what you do is resign, so that if he was going to fire you, you beat him to the punch, but if he was going to re-assign you as a surprise, now he has to give you a raise to get you back and it serves him right for playing games with your job.
If, on the other hand, it's a whole department, then the only explanation is that they're about to do a big downsizing, in which case the only thing everyone can do is quietly start looking for other work while getting as much salary/wage out of the existing job as you can, because it's not a bad mark on your record to be downsized as part of a department like it is to be fired as an individual, therefore, hang on and milk it for all you can get until they make the announcement.

I would definitely inquire as to what was behind the transferring of responsibilities. If there is going to be downsizing, that is something that I would want to be aware of in advance if at all possible. If there is simply a rethinking of the corporate structure and they are clearing my department's plate to make room for new tasks...well, I would want to know about that, too because I would want to make sure that the new tasks are ones that I would want to be working on.
Shifting a majority of one person or one group's tasks is rarely a positive sign, and I would have to try and determine just what was coming down the pike.
