How about volunteering in your field of study? Sometimes this can lead to a paid position and at the very least it will look good on a resume.

Your local city council or mayor's office may be able to coordinate a summer internship if the deadline for application hasn't expired. Depending on your field of study, you could directly contact potential employers with your request for a summer internship. Unpaid internships are fairly easy to obtain. If you just want an internship to put on your Resumé and it doesn't matter if it's paid or unpaid, you could still approach potential employers directly. You could also look online or in the phone book for prominent persons in your field that own a business and ask them to refer you for a possible internship.
