Under normal circumstances, I would say that working for two employers at the same time would be unethical. Simply because your main job is the one that you have to remain focused on. You promised your boss that you would do your job to the best of your ability when you got hired on. That should never change.
I do, however, believe that in certain circumstances that it is ok. I do side work during the day while at my real job. I run a loan office and the laundrymat in a small town. When I come in the mornings I set myself right to work. Taking care of collection, clients, laundry customers, phone calls, paperwork(lots of it), cleaning, and anything else that I need to handle. Usually some time after lunch when I have finished my work que, I will start on things that I do to make a few extra dollars for myself. I have talked to my boss about it and he doesnt mind because he knows that there are times when the down time is long. All his other offices have tv's in them, i prefer not to veg out.

Absolutely not. Not only is this grounds for termination, but imagine how it could reflect on you if you ever needed a reference from your employer?
If you were paying someone with your own money, and found out they took your money and then did work for someone else AND got paid by them too, you would be pretty upset too right?

I would do this under a few circumstances but only a very very few, otherwise it would be too unethical :(
_I've been retrenched and am pretty much expected to sit at the desk doing nothing
_I've done all my work, I have done everything else I could for my first job and really were just either going to surf or do the work for the other job
Say on the night shift, 3am, no tech support calls and all the reports are done......posting at ConundrumLand or Mahalo during work hours would be considered moonlighting :)
Otherwise I think no, not good form.

This depends on the understanding you have with your employer and how many hours you work.
I am contracted to work 30 hours per week but actually work about 45.
I work 9 -5 Monday to Thursday and evenings/Friday-Sunday when I get the chance.
Therefore I regularly and unashamedly work on Mahalo during working hours because of the flexible nature of my job.
I believe when you are working more than the contracted hours this shouldn't be a problem but this varies with organisation, role, etc In some cases organizations won't want to set a precedent and would prefer to say "No".
