I would start by taking courses in the career I plan to change to and start to make contacts within the industry.

Focus on smaller companies. A large company has 100's of relevant applicants so they won't even consider you if you don't have relevant training or experience. A smaller company or a non-profit might be willing to give you a shot and give you the experience you need to build upon.

Start small, be humble, take what you can get, ask lots of questions and absorb everything like a sponge.
